The PAAS sponsored Mentor Program Kicks off this week – Saturday, October 16th– 10AM to 12 noon – at Crossroad Church of the Nazarene – 2750 Rogers Avenue, Ellicott City- (They have donated their space to PAAS to prevent us from having to pay to utilize Mt. Hebron .) The theme this year is and this session is “Building a WINNING Attitude”.
We need parents to relate and feel free to bring any young adult that has a story to tell about being a winner in life. This is a common theme but one we discussed recently with the senior members of the varsity football team. Within this theme we need to incorporate opportunities to demonstrate and allow the students to develop winning strategies that support their ability to present themselves verbally, in writing, and physically and to sharpen their problem solving and relationships building skills necessary to be a “WINNER in Life”.
We will start at 10:00 am and will give the students a project to make a poster of a mantra or motto that will inspire them in their lives every day. I need parent volunteers to present a completed poster or “thing” that inspires them everyday. While the student completes this project. We also need parent facilitators to meet to discuss how we want to execute the mentor program this year so that the students are engaged excited and the program works for them. I have invited some Mt. Hebron alumni to participate as they did last year. It would be great to incorporate some field visits and establish a program that addresses issues our students run into at school in the community each day.
Please RSVP if you or your child will attend. We are targeting all grades but particularly freshman, sophomores and juniors. Graduates of the Mentor program have as a whole been very successful and WINNERS not just at Mt. Hebron but in life.
