Stop by the BSAP Saturday Math Academy (SMA) Open House, this Saturday, March 19th from 10:30AM to 11:30AM at Oakland Mills High School. This BSAP – SMA program is designed to accelerate academic achievement in mathematics for students in grades 4-12 in the Howard County Public School System. (Please RSVP by Mar. 17th to email@example.com)
The BSAP Saturday Math Academy (BSAP-SMA) has been in existence since 1992. The concept began from a need voiced by the parents in the Long Reach and Oakland Mills communities. Parents felt their children needed a more intimate setting where their children could receive mentoring and tutoring on identified skills from certified teachers. Some parents wanted their children to receive that “extra push”, even though their children were on grade level. Parents also wanted to have opportunities to meet together and learn strategies that could help their children at home as well as in the classroom.
The BSAP – SMA is designed to accelerate academic achievement in mathematics in a unique setting. Certified teachers tutor and mentor a diverse population of students that are on, below or above grade level in mathematics. Parents and students identify mathematics goals upon registration; the teachers review the goals and plan accordingly to assist/mentor students in small groups. Students are expected to bring class work, homework, books, tests, and questions each Saturday. The instruction is individualized as much as possible.
The Saturday Math Academy is open to all students in grades 4 – 12 in the Howard County Public School System. The BSAP – SMA has two sessions, fall and spring that meet on Saturday mornings from 9:00AM – 12:00PM at Oakland Mills High School.
