PAAS President Angela Ballard-Landers opened the meeting

Guest Speaker:  Ms Faenita Dilworth owner of FDTOURS, providing educational college tours attended the meeting.  More information on FDTOURS can be found at FD@FDTOURS.COM

African American Awareness Association (QUAD A):  QUAD A executive officers attended the meeting (President – Gayle Geh, Co-Vice Presidents – Matthew Wright and, Mary Atta-Dakwa)

QUAD A is motivated and excited about the coming year and they are actively engaging with the Mt Hebron student body.  Quad A is researching fund raising activities, community service activities and have already begun discussing other activities this year to include the annual Black History Month Celebration.  Monthly Quad A meetings are every 2nd Tuesday of the month immediately following dismissal in room 106.

PAAS Membership:   $30.  Send payments to                                                                     PAAS c/o Angela Ballard-Landers, Mt Hebron High School, 9440 Old Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042 or pay via PayPal on the PAAS site mthpaas@wordpress.com  select the Donate or Join tab then PayPal.                                                                                     All funds collected by PAAS go toward the Scholarship Fund awarded to graduating seniors.  Seniors must be QUAD A members and parents must be PAAS members.

Request to the Principal:  PAAS is crafting a request to Mr. Scott Ruehl, Principal, Mt Hebron High School to provide an update on the following data:                                              # of African American students                                                                                                       Size of this year’s senior class                                                                                                         How our students performed on the SAT and the HSA’s                                                        Suspension and attendance rates                                                                                                       # of students taking GT classes                                                                                                           # of students in NHS                                                                                                                        How scoring is done for NHS                                                                                                                List of points per activity (NHS)                                                                                                          # of African American teachers; # in core subjects

PAAS has also made a request to Student Services (Guidance) to attend the next PAAS meeting to provide an overview of services offered. In addition, PAAS was recently notified that Irene Bademosi is no longer the PAAS rep, effective 2011. However, no reason has been provided. Because of Ms. Bademosi’s experience and wealth of knowledge the request to Mr. Ruehl addresses this along with a request to reappoint her.
