The Mt. Hebron Parents of African Students organization is a satellite organization of the PTSA. As parents of students currently enrolled in Mt. Hebron High School, we work together to implement programs to help ensure the overall success of our students. We ask that parents “make a difference by being the difference” in the lives of not just their student, but all the African American students at Mt Hebron as well as the greater Mt. Hebron family.
PAAS Goals are to close the academic achievement gap and to push our students to ensure that they are making the most of their high school experience. We work with students and the Mt. Hebron staff to ensure that our students are taking the most rigourous coursework they can handle and that they are laying the groundwork necessary to make their dreams a reality. We encourage them to take on leadership roles in organizations in the Mt. Hebron community and to stretch beyond what might seem possible in academics, career preparation, leadership and other areas.
Laying the groundwork for success needs to begin day one of freshman year with our student organization, QUAD A. The goal is to obtain and maintain an A grade in math, science, English and social science. By establishing academics as the priority, students are better able to structure their activities for overall success. We strive to maintain momentum with our rising sophmores, juniors and seniors as a parent group by supporting them in exceeding expectations and becoming National Honor Society Members, graduating in the top 5% of their class, completing advanced placement courses and gaining acceptance to world class institutions upon graduation.
